Locallectual :: A Geolocative Locavore Community
www.Locallectual.com

Homepage screenshot of Locallectual.com Locallectual is an online locavore community where locavores, localvores and localtarians from around the globe can go to find products made close to home. This web portal serves several positive purposes based around local purchasing and local economies.

  1. Locallectual will help consumers lower their carbon footprint by providing them with a geolocative directory of companies and products searchable by region. Excess fossil fuels can be conserved by avoiding shipping goods cross-country that one can otherwise find down the street, in turn providing cleaner air. Buying local also helps keep one's tax base "in-house," applying them to local roads and schools instead of supporting a Delaware-based mega corporation. For every dime you save at the megaplex, your local taxes can be raised up to a dollar to make up for the infrastructure funding losses.
  2. Ecopreneurs -- business folks that want to obtain more resources closer in proximity -- will also find the company index by region searches to be very helpful. Registered members can create private or public areas that could serve geolocation based information for  Customer-to-Customer, Business-to-Customer, and Business-to-Business.
  3. The locality-based online community is a place where you can others can share information about locatecture. Subscribe to the RSS blog feeds to find out the latest in socially responsible product offerings. Members can post questions in forums to engage in locacurious conversations, ranging from save the planet to ethicureanism.
  4. Join or create a community based around your own local region. Invite friends, start calendars, or begin your own local food movement .

Oh My Brain provides information architecture, platform creation, community building, and SEO services for this project.
